This bivalve freshwater mollusk with a tear-shaped shell can be found either clinging to the side of submerged boulders or simply lying half-buried in the mud. As any impurity it consumes will remain in its body for the duration of its lifespan, the pond mussel can be used to determine the level of water corruption.
